SolarWorld Breaks Ground on 25MW Desert Star Solar Projects in California
SolarWorld announced today that it has begun construction of its 25-megawatt (DC) Desert Star Solar Projects in California's Mojave Desert. The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) division of SolarWorld, which owns the land and projects near Twentynine Palms, Calif., is overseeing all phases of the projects, including design, engineering, procurement, permitting and construction. Once completed later this year, Desert Star will rank among California's largest operating crystalline-silicon solar installations. -

Manz CIGS Solar Panel Reaches 14.6% Efficiency
Manz has achieved a technological breakthrough: its integrated production line for CIGS thin-film solar panels, the Manz CIGSfab, can be used to manufacture solar panels that in the future, will supply power costing between 4 euro cents (Spain) and 8 euro cents (Germany) per kilowatt hour, depending on the location. -

Canadian Solar Supplies Modules for Turkey's First Governmental PV Project
Canadian Solar Inc. today announced it will supply solar modules for Turkey's first and largest governmental solar PV project which will be installed by Gehrlicher Merk Solar. The two companies have won the public tendering for the Gursu municipality of Bursa in Turkey. The milestone PV project has a total capacity of 96kW and is supported directly by the Turkish Prime Minister's office. Canadian Solar was selected out of 13 different module manufacturers for this project. -

Chevron Energy Installs 2.7MW PV Project for Jurupa Unified School District
Jurupa Unified School District and Chevron Energy Solutions today announced the completion of a 2.7 megawatt solar and energy efficiency program expected to reduce energy costs at 27 school sites and save the District more than $34 million. The project added solar photovoltaic panels mounted on parking and shade structures at nine campuses; replaced 400 air conditioning units, most of them more than 20 years old; and upgraded more than 21,000 lighting fixtures. Coupled with comprehensive energy education curriculum content, the transformative program is designed to inspire students to learn about – and experience – clean energy technologies and concepts. -

Suntech and Solarstrom AG Sign 26MW Contract
Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. have signed a contract for Suntech to supply approximately 26 megawatts (MW) of monocrystalline and polycrystalline solar panels, which will be used for new power plants in Germany.
