05 June 2013 - AMEC has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract by Dominion to design and construct a 7.7-megawatt (AC) solar photovoltaic facility near Augusta, Georgia.

Under the contract, the value of which has not been disclosed, AMEC will serve as the EPC contractor. The solar modules will be supplied by Georgia-based Suniva and locally based talent will be used for the construction trades. Commercial production is expected to begin in late 2013 and once online, the facility will have enough power to supply 2,000 homes with electricity at full output.

"We are thrilled Dominion has chosen to partner with us on their first large-scale solar facility within the company's portfolio and an important addition to AMEC’s growing resume of solar expertise," said Tom Dodson, Vice President at AMEC.  "We have built a strong working relationship with Dominion and look forward to demonstrating our leading knowledge and expertise in the effective delivery of clean energy projects."

Thomas F. Farrell II, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Dominion added: "The addition of this solar project to our generation portfolio is consistent with our philosophy, which recognizes that affordable and reliable electric supply depends on a proper balance of all types of generation: nuclear, clean coal, biomass, natural gas, hydro-power, wind and solar. Dominion is excited to add its first generation-scale solar project to its energy mix."

The 40-acre project is located on 100 acres of farm and forest land in Washington County about 60 miles southwest of Augusta. The project has a 25-year power purchase agreement with Cobb Electric Membership Corp. serving more than 177,000 members and 196,000 meters.
