BELECTRIC has completed a solar power system for Vattenfall's full hybrid power plant. The Haringvliet Zuid energy park consists of a wind farm (22 MW) and a battery storage system (12 MW), as well as a large-scale photovoltaic plant which was constructed and commissioned on schedule by the German solar specialist BELECTRIC. The solar farm alone covers an area of around 30 hectares and has an installed capacity of 38 MW. The hybrid power plant is designed to generate and store renewable energy and was built on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee in the province of South Holland, around 30 kilometres south west of Rotterdam. BELECTRIC will also take on the operation and maintenance (O&M) of the solar farm for an initial period of
two years.

"The hybrid power plant of our customer Vattenfall is a truly forward-thinking concept. That's why we are particularly proud that we were part of this innovative project and have delivered the solar plant with an installed capacity of 38 MW on time and to a very high quality," explains Ingo Alphéus, CEO of BELECTRIC Solar & Battery GmbH. "By the end of 2021 we will have installed more than 160 MW of solar capacity in the Netherlands, making us one of the country's leading players in the sector."

Paolo Pimentel, Director Project Delivery at Vattenfall, says: "Haringvliet is our biggest solar plant so far and the first hybrid one. This successful combination of solar, wind and batteries represents the joint efforts of a purpose-driven team that worked hard during a turbulent year hampered by COVID 19 restrictions. This is an awesome milestone for Vattenfall and an important step towards our ambition of fossil free living within one generation. We celebrate the resilience of our team members and recognize all the stakeholders involved in this project, especially our selected EPC partner BELECTRIC."

The solar farm completed by BELECTRIC complements the power generation profile of the wind farm. They are combined with a battery storage system which results in a utility-scale green power plant - which will play an important role in helping stabilise the power grid. Building a hybrid project has significantly higher demands than a 'stand-alone‘ solar power plant - not only in terms of coordinating planning and construction so that the solar power plant, the wind farm and battery storage system can be delivered in parallel, but also in terms of the project-specific functionality of its SCADA system. BELECTRIC, with its customer Vattenfall, developed and successfully implemented optimised solutions for monitoring and controlling the solar park, which take into account market price developments, weather forecasts and power grid requirements.

BELECTRIC is an EPC (engineering-procurement-construction) service providers in the development and construction of ground-mounted solar power plants and rooftop PV systems. BELECTRIC looks back on 20 years of experience in power plant construction and has built almost 4 gigawatts of capacity to date. The company monitors more than 530 solar farms with a total installed capacity of more than 2.7 gigawatts worldwide, making BELECTRIC one of the top five O&M service providers in the world.
